KW Coilover Questions - DSG or non DSG kit?
« on: March 29, 2011, 06:00:02 pm »
Hello all,

I've just agreed to purchase Wardy's KW V1 Coilovers. They were from his manual car and have a 55m strut fitment.

My car is DSG which means I am accepting that I won't benefit from the stiffer spring rate that KW specified for the heavier DSG car, but they will fit as all DSG's came with 55m fitment (and my did as I have measured it.)

What I want to know is, will I really notice much difference? I am prepared to try them and take em off if I don't like the way the car feels, but I am just wondering how much difference this will actually make.

For example, my car ALREADY has an additional load over stock because it has R32 brakes (granted that is unsprung weight) but also a number of other changes which have significantly affected the weight up or down a bit. In addition, I weigh 100 kg which is a lot more than average and not something KW will have been thinking of when they designed their kits.

Just curious really. I'm assuming nothing here will be dangerous at least, plus as most other manufacturers don't even both listing different parts, should I even worry?? Or if anyone can tell me they just wont fit, I would appreciate it!!

Thanks
Matt

The DSG GTI is only a bit heavier so i would say the springs wont be to much different. You might notice it if you have rubbing issues due to wheel offset or really low, but i reckon in the real world unless you are at the edge of usage then it should be fine. A few people on here have done the same and not reported any probs due to this. In fact i sold my V2's to a chap with a manual and he was fine.  :happy2:

Thanks TC - I had thought that and hence, bought them anyway.  I figure that hell, I weigh maybe 20-30 kg more than most anyway, so how can KW do anything more than just 'the best they can based on certain assumptions'

Anyway, I plan to drop it a tiny bit (5-10mm) more at the front, which I might just have to rethink based on scrubbing etc.

Just need a rear ARB and WALK now.
