I luv my Edition30.
« on: March 29, 2011, 11:02:46 pm »
Pootling along at 60mph or just under,in 6th,when a Honda S2000 comes barreling up behind me,sits on my tail for a while, then pulls out and goes past, only to slow down right in front of me,then speed up.
"Right-o" thinks I and lets him pull ahead by about 300 yards.
Put my foot down, catch him up, sit behind him while he accelerates, then indicate, pull out and sail past. All whilst still in 6th gear. :P
I love me ED30. :driver:

Could have done it with a lot more style if you had dropped a gear and then pulled past...... :P

Yeah, normally I would have done, (not that I condone such actions on public roads, let alone the private one that I was on... :innocent:) but doing it all in top gear made it all seem so much more effortless to the Golf.

Nice to see that you're looking after that clutch!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Im looking foward to our next encounter, he still wont have enough...............unless he can now afford a remap  :signLOL:
then im in trouble :ashamed:

I had a little dual with my friend S2000 round the track and i actually pulled away from him in a straight line.
Mine is only a remapped GTI aswell. :chicken:

I had two S2000's before an Edition 30 DSG ... followed by the same Edition 30 remapped.

Obviously remapped the Ed 30 would murder most things - and it was most definitely far quicker than my S2000.  As for standard I would not say there would be much if anything in it ... power or handling.  They are both really good cars and handle well - it would be more down to the driver ... like it actually is in most cases.

The S2000 is about top down fun and TBH is far more engaging than the Edition 30 .... but in a totally different way.  They are just aimed at very different things.

But from a rolling start and in gear a NA car with similar displacement will struggle to do a forced induction car, not to mention the Ed30 has significantly more torque all over the rev range and that what accelerates the car not the BHP.

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Unless the ED30 is mapped, there is no way that it will catch and overtake a S2000 when on the boil (especially in 6th!!!  :surprised:).
Like SO8 says, they are very similar in regards to straight line performance. I would guess that the guy wasn't on the loud pedal or in the wrong gear at the time. But good to see you're enjoying the car anyway..  :happy2:

I love my ed30 too

I struggled to get away from a alfa 156 v6 today! It was only a short burst and speeds didn't get high (more of an acceleration play ) I did pull but only slightly! Might have been different if we kept going but to be fair it was faster than I thought!! And if I was in the alfa I would have been happy with the car,
I may be underestimating the alfa as they may be a very quick car but I thought big heavy engine in a heavy car it wouldn't be very fast, doesnt look like much too  :scared:
