« on: March 30, 2011, 06:52:43 am »
It lloks like I'll go doen the route of MFD2 as an upgrade to the RCD300.

Can you kind people let me know what I'll need to get my Ipod working with this?

Will I be able to control the ipod from the head unit?

All replies and advice welcomed & sorry for the noob questions

Youll need the VW iPod kit which interfaces as a CD changer

VCDS Scanning/Coding, RNS and MDI retrofits, and specialist mechanics services with VAGtek available - Just PM me for details.

Hi Alex

Missed your reply. No I haven't got an armrest or a connection in the glovebox. I've got an 05 GT tdi.

I realise that I won't have the Id tags on the mfd2 and that it connects to the cd changer port, and that it will play the 1st 5 playlists.

I'd still appreciate if you could let me know my options. I want the best sound quality possible.

Thanks

Thats correct

Best option would be to get a genuine VW ipod adapter and run it into the glove box as you dont need to access the iPod once its plugged in

Playlists 1 thru 5 work, and 6 is all songs

Sound quality through that kit is spot on, though I suggest enabling the EQ on Rock on the iPod for the best reproduction via the MFD2

I've had a look on the net & I'm not sure what cable I want  :rolleye:

Can someone point me in the right direction. I think I want a cable that connects my iPod to the cd changer port of the mfd2. I would like it to charge the iPod & leave the iPod in the glove box.

I've found two options:

1. The official VW cable (1K0051444), which seems to be well over £100 from the dealer.
2. Xcarlink, (£80) this seems the better option as it is still possible to use the iPod to control track selection etc.

All replies welcomed & appreciated.

Damn it. Just remembered I forgot to remove the iPod kit from the centre console when I part exchanged the golf last week. If I'd had remembered, you could have had it with the MFD2.

Sorry about that Rob.

Hi mate

I'm in a very similar position, I've brought a iPod Armrest dock from eBay (got it for £24 and included the VW bottle opener!) anyway now I'm stuck because I don't know which cable I'll need!, If manage to find the right part number let me know mate!

Thanks

Decided to go with the xcarlink and a nano in a discreet position. This will allow me to control the nano.
