Boost leak?
« on: March 26, 2011, 01:39:24 pm »
Hi guys, im new to the vdub scene bought a MK5 GTI in tornado red a couple of weeks ago, am absolutly loving it, my previous car was a renault clio 197 so its good to have a car that you dont have to thrash the beans out of to get it moving!! Anyways i have noticed over the last few days that the car doesnt seem to be coming up on boost properly, its as though when you hit 2500 rpm the car is just dumping all the boost and when the windows down you can hear a tschhh (apoligies for the poor attempt at sound writing) up untill you change gear when it starts again, i have been looking on here and have noticed that a few people have had diverter valve problems? Is there anything else it could be? There is no management lights up and if you didnt drive on turbo you would never know there was a problem, the turbo spools up fine by the sounds of it just not being transfered into the engine to produce power, just thought id try and see if anyone else has had the same symptoms and if so what the problem was, would hopefully save me having to take it to the stealers!

Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers guys!

Nick

Sounds to me like you'll be wanting to check and likely replace the DV.

A quick search should cover most of the subject  :happy2:

My car made the same noise. replaced the DV and it was sorted, you'll really notice the difference when the new one is fitted.

i would agree with the DV issue... unlikely that the management light would come on anyway as the turbo etc etc is boosting and working perfectly. the DV unit is both mechanical and electrical and the common faults with these are from the mechanical side, basically the rubbery type material inside wears away over time and creates small holes/rips which allows the boost to escape from it.
replace it yourself, 3 bolts and a plug, and u will feel the boost.... :driver:

I have the same thing, with the windows down I can hear it whistling up and when I change gear can hear the Tssst noise too, but the boost etc seems fine and not affecting performance. Should I be looking at a new DV also?
