How long would a set of R888's last under normal conditions.  At the moment with mostly motorway miles I make a set of Toyo Proxy T1R's last 20k on the front and 40k on the rear.

The compound of the T1R is 280.  Ive just checked some 888's in stock and they are 100.  Based on your figures you will use up the 888's 7200 1440 miles respectivley. 

The lower the number the solfer the compound.  to make it easier to understand if they were 200 and 100, the 100 would wear approx twice as fast.

Yea should be on all tyres. Look for where it says   Treadwear 280  Temperature AA  Traction AA  (have a look on the net, it explaines the meaning of them, straight line stopping in the wet and all sorts)

It is very usefull but a 280 on a Toyo woulddnt necessarily be the same as a 280 on a Conti, its not a 100% fixed measurement.  the tread pattern will also have an impact on how the tyre wears, for example, do you remember the original Toyo T1s?  Big long groves made the tyre wear quickly as they moved about alot, the new T1R was the replacement and to overcome the wear problmes they put 2 groves around the radius of the wheel, this cut the long groves in half making them much more rigid decreasing the movement and inceasing the wear rate, all without changing the compound1 (nerd alert  )

Hmm - if you had 18"s I could have sold you a nearly new set of Parada Spec2s.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups? Hankook Ventus K107s that VWR use?

It will always depend on how you use the car from day to day on how they wear. My Conti's lasted a mere 8700 miles and are much harder than the R888's.

I've been looking and asking about R888's for a while now on various forums and talking to quite a few peeps and although they are very good at what they are designed to do, they aren't designed to be used as an every day wheel. I've also seen a few posts about cold weather useage and they can crack in sub zero conditions. Here's a linky.

What size are you after?  I can try and find some more info for you.  Prada Spec 2's are OK although i found them treeible in the wet (diffeent car so wont apply to every vehicle)  From memory Kumho make a track biasd tyre that wont break the bank.

But to echo Hurdy's comments, these are track tyres that are legal on the road rather than road tyres that can cope with the track......

you shouldnt use R888's for normal road use. 1. they wont last and 2. they will be pretty dangerous in the wet as they are not designed for tohswe conditions on the road.

I am going for some Hankook RS2 Z212 for my trackday tyres. these are supposed to be a bit less grippy than the R888's but alot longer lasting, as well as being decent in the wet. They are also only £99 per corner for 225/40/18's.

I am after 235/35/19 tyres but I am also tempted to go back to 18" and sell the CH's.  I have already tried the Prada Spec 2's on my monza II and hated them, thats why I sold the wheels with the tyres and bought the CH's in 19".  I think I could get a good price for the CH's so might go down that route.

Yep, that's why I'm shifting the Paradas - I just can't trust them in the wet... but for someone who wants to sling them on a set of rims for tracking, they'll be great.

I have had my R888's on for about 5 weeks now.. Love them, drive fine in all conditions, including snow!

Pretty silly to run a low profile tyre of that type anyways, not really what they are designed for..
