Crank Shaft Seal

well noticed my golf was leaking oil,

had a look under the car yesterday and this was confirmed

look it to a local garage and he suspected it was the crank shaft seal that may have gone.

Only had the cam belt done about 3 weeks ago which is very annoying as apparently the fix is the same labour or there abouts.

Now this is a really newb question but the guy at the garage said to check the engine breather to see if it was blocked as this could be forcing the oil out, now if im honest i havnt got a clue where this is or how to check it. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

also has this happened to anyone else?

The engine block breather on the TFSI (I think anyway) would be the PCV system it allows gasses in the block to be vented and circulated back into the intake valves for burning to lower emissions.

If my assumption that this is the right ventilation system then these are known to fail but normally they fail by allowing air to flow into the crank not fail to block air from exiting.  If its failed then this normally results in a poorly held idle (hunting)

Hopefully someone will validate if im right shortly as the PCV is just my assumption of engine breather.
