Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's are pretty light wheels , you can get them in 18" which should clear your brakes , Im not clued up on track style tyres though.
2005 Golf GTI 3 Door - Tornado Red. (2010 - 2012)

2008 Golf GTI 3 Door - Candy White , 18" Monza II's , Leather , Armrest , Rear Park sensors. (current car)

I've used both Toyo R888's and Toyo R1R's on track in combination with 17" and 18" Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's and they are great tyres for track and the R1R's are also great on the road too.
The TDPR 1.2's won't break the bank either. :happy2:

Also have a look at Redrobin's OZ Allegerita's - super lightweight, but a little more ££'s

I run 1.2's and R888's as my track day setup too. Fantastic kit!

1.2's if you like Team Dynamics round the outside, or the 1.3's if you dont.

R888's are the best track tyre still and great on the road too.

Expect to do a set of front tyres every track day if you drive hard and go out all day.  Just keep an eye on tyre pressures and tyre temps to make sure they dont kill themselves too fast.  Rears last ages.

I can also supply dunlop slicks for track days too!  Slicks will blow your mind.

Medium, Soft or Hard on the Toyo's and are they road legal to get to the track or is it a case of putting them in the boot to get to track?

I thought most track day organizers were abit skittish of guys with full race slicks.

+1 with steve P, can you get the direzza's?

^^^^

Depends on the track.

Usually they will specify road legal tyres only if they only want road legal cars.

Last year on the 'ring I was on a trackday and they were doing shakedowns in track only cars with slicks, but you had to have a roll cage, full harness and helmet to use them.

17 in TD's are lighter still, and willl fit over your brakes no problem my RS4 brake kit fits  inside them. Just.   :pomppomp: and its cheaper on tyres as well.
