is it wise to get a new intake but not upgrade the exhaust?

For a full exhaust you are talking a lot of money which is not really affordable the now have only bought the car last month. I do want to upgrade the intake though and was wondering if there is any point in doing so if I have the standard exhaust- ie will it make a difference? Or should I do both together? Thanks

just buy a down pipe for the exhaust not the full system. that will make biggest difference.

Or just get a stage 1 remap, best bang for buck.

an intake is fine on stage 1. If you fit the exhaust you will need to get a stage 2 map

Ed666999 is correct that if you want performance you only need the downpipe.  All you get with the cat back part of the exhaust is more noise

Janner- why would I need to go to stage 2 to fit a new exhaust? I have known people to fit a new exhaust without even having a remap. Do you mean its only worthwhile if I was to get a remap stage 2? Thanks

thast rubbish.  Purely to make you buy the full system  from them.  All you need is a reducer from 2.75" to 2.5"(for the GTI 200ps) and 3" to 2.5" (k04 TFSI) is all that is required to mate it to your standard system.  My Pipewerx downpipe had the reducer built in and went from 3" to 2.5".  Sounded great as well.

When you fit the downpipe, it removes the pre-cat and fits a free'er flowing 2'nd cat.  This means that the lambda sensor readings on the exhaust will be outside the normal range and more often than not you will end up with an engine management light flashing up.  This doesnt necessarily mean you need a stage 2 map, as a stage 1 car can have those sensors mapped out with no issues, but if your sticking on the downpipe you may as well go stage 2 IMO.

Quite alot of guys on here have run the Miltek with a reducer with zero issues, same with blueflame and pipewerx.

42DD make a spacer for the O2 sensor which will put out the exhaust cel.

i had errors flash up with my bluefin until i went stage 2, same with the shark performance map.  Maybe its pot luck, who knows

I would say unless you can re-map the car after the exhaust then don't fit it untill you can afford. I left the downpipe untill last just before I went stage 2+ and I'm happy I did leave it till last because I experienced some big flat spots in the rev range and I couldn't have lived with it for long. Just a thought.

so are you guys saying that even a full militek after a stage 1 would cause problems with the sensors?? My local revo dealer said that a new exhaust and induction kit would make full use of a stage 1....

Also in response to my original question so it would be fine to put in a new induction kit without upgrading the exhaust?

the induction kit is IMO the better option to do first before you get an exhaust and stage 2 map.

the cat back part of the exhaust wont give you any engine lights as it doesnt change the flow rate or lambda values etc as its not a performance modification

You would be better off fitting what mods you want and then getting the map later as with revo the tuner would be able to change settings to optimise your mods. It would proberly be fine doing the map first but to be a 100 % sure it was running sweet then the map last Imo.
