Mk6 mirrors on a MK5
« on: April 03, 2011, 02:22:31 pm »
Need a little bit of help really as I can't find any definate answers.

Will a standard electric Mk6 door mirror fit onto a Mk5?? or does it need any modifications to do??

Thanks in advance :)

Just found someone who tried to do this and this was what he said.

Quote
They could be fitted if you wanted to fabricate custom baseplates for them, the Mk6 ones are way smaller in height than the Mk5 versions.

When I trial fitted the Mk6 mirror in place there was a half inch gap to the rubber at the base of the glass. I would imagine you'd need to get hold of some 2nd hand Mk5 baseplates and cut them up / blend to the Mk6 item and respray the whole thing.

Maybe I should have searched etc before I clicked buy it now a few days ago

Well I'm not gonna give up tbh, so once I have them I'll see what the best way to do it will be, but I'll post up what the results are etc.

If its just base plates then that should be easy enough to the right person
