232bhp Edition 35 Golf GTI
« Reply #105 on: May 10, 2011, 12:45:22 pm »
Hi Guys

I've just seen this hit the TopGear website:
http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/golf-gti-edition-35-announced-2011-05-10

I'm a bit disappointed with the standard power output, I was expecting more like 240bhp at least. However I would be more interested with finer details of what is under the bonnet...

I think we're all hoping this will be what the Mk5 Ed30 was to the regular Golf GTI i.e. only 30bhp more in standard tune but one of the first interations of possibly one of THE MOST tunable engines available; the 2.0TFSI (CDL).

Look forward to seeing an ETKA parts list :)

I just hope its not ANOTHER EA113 2.0TFSI which will max the stock turbo out at 365bhp when taken to stage 2+

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be the new EA888 version of the old mk5 Ed30 - would love to see what that (currently theoretical) engine would do when taken to the max!

If I hadn't of just bought a 330d I may have been interested in this .... if it is going to have the Edition 30/K04 lump under the bonnet - still, too late anyway    Not that there is anything wrong with the 330d at 6 to 60 ....

Word has it none will ever get one, it's owned by quattro GmbH rather than VAG as a group - so I think they'll just use it for their RS cars. Weird set up, I know.

The work was sub-contracted out to Quattro as they operate like an external business. This doesnt mean Audi have exclusive claim to the engine. The development was 'paid for' by the VW group. As has been pointed out, it's based on the 2.5 block from the states, which comes in a... Golf. I've heard from friends on the inside that it's a case of never say never. MkVII R is possibility.

As for Ed35 - no suprises really. Just a 'special-ish' GTI, just like the Ed30. If you want show with your go, buy an R.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

.
I saw some pics of the Edition 35 today.........

Oh dear! VW just don't get it do they.

The GTI Mk6 has been called the Mk5.5 by so many people and this Edition 35 is just an Edition 30.5. Power up to 235 bhp and the rest is a bit of trim. So very disappointing. Horrible wheels too.

On the other hand I'm not filled with lust and sadness about not being able to get one.

Is it me or does a 35th anniversary celebratory edition sound a little odd? 25 yrs... 30 yrs all landmark years for lots of things, surely 40 yrs would be the next logical one...?

Its called marketing. Its sells cars. And it works. Ask Porsche...
