I wonder if they will give it the 7 speed DSG that is in the RS3?

That would certainly give the modders loads of headroom to play with without any danger of clutch slip. :jumping: :driver:

EA113 = 2.0 TFSI (ok, VW does name ist TSI cos they only have TSI now).

Why should VW?
Even the Golf R has only 6-speed DSG. Development on transmission parts is
very expensive.

The ED35 is just a variant of the DSG and they will sell only a few compared
to all the TDI and 80 HPs. They will not spent much money on development.
The ED35 will come with 6-speed manual and optional with 6-speed DSG.

Yes i know that, which is why i said the 2.0TSI or the Golf R/ed30/s3/cupra engine (2.0tfsi). The EA888 is a tsi engine and the yanks have been putting the k04 on them with very good results.

Which is why i asked which one there putting in the Ed35 as the EA888 with a ko4 is quicker and therefore better :evilgrin:

Also if they put the 2.0tfsi engine in, there is no piont in the ed35 at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with this time around.

All this engine nomenclature, can someone clarify? Is it basically the original K04 T-FSI unit, so any modding past stage 2 is going to need a fuel pump like the Cupra/ED30/S3?? Rather than the new Scirocco unit with a K04 instead of the IHI?

Whoever asked, there will be a 35th anniversary model, they've had them all the way back to the 5th anniversary MKI Campaign. I had a MKII Campaign in Helious blue. Not sure there was a 15th anniversary? But there was deffo the 20th, 25th and 30th....

Also, don't forget the Germans got the GTI in 76, we had to wait till 77, which is why our anniversary cars arrive a little later. Likewise the USA missed a few and our 25th was their 20th.

The new 7spd version is more compact and lighter, dry clutch and 7 ratios contribute to emissions/fuel economy which is top of everyone's list at the moment. Even the Polo comes with 7spd DSG now, so clearly packaging isn't an issue. And as the RS3 has a 7spd DSG 'box, strength is not an issue either.

The 7 speed dry clutch DSG cant handle much torque and wouldnt be usable in any 2.0TFSI configuration. Audi have had a longitudinal 7 speed wet clutch DSG for awhile now and have clearly got a transverse version ready for the RS3 then that will be an interesting box to filter down to VW in the MK7.

Why should VW take the cost and put the expensive 7-speed DSG into
a Golf ED35 when they have this engine together with the 6-speed DSG
in Cupra, Cupra R, Scirocco R, Golf R, S3 and TT-S?

Maybe VW think of putting the 7-speed into a completely new Golf VII,
but not in an not so important ED35, that will be built some thousands
only. That wouldn't make any sense.

Adapting gearboxes is very costly. That's why there were no changes
from the Mk.V to the Mk.VI .

My guess would be Audi will release the 7 speed transverse in the new A3 next year if they intend to couple it with the 2.0 turbo engines, and we will then see it filter into the MK7 at somepoint the year after that.  Of course if its something they specifically developed for the RS3 then you could see it stay in the RS family TT and 3 for the full production before moving into the A3 later on in the model run.

Thats assuming of course that they dont use greater torque through the dry clutch 7 speed DSG which can only be used with 1.8TFSI in the A3 currently, or only use 1.8 in the MK7 GTI to keep higher displacement 2.0TFSI for the hot model since they seem to have a policy of less displacement with the hotter cars.

I had a chat with my local VAG dealer today .

He confirmed something is going to be available with a 235 bhp engine but  said the system shows a car but no info other than 235bhp , He will keep me posted as things develop

Agreed, but as we all know the Golf can handle so much more power. It's just irksome that the power outputs of the GTI and R are effectively controlled by higher-end Audis.

VW have never tried to make the GTI the fastest or best handling.
The GTI reputation has always been built on it being the best all rounder - at a price!

Besides, the VW engines are notorious for actually producing higher BHP than claimed when owners put them on the rollers, unlike certain other brands.
Last time I was at a rolling road day most cars were putting out below the factory claimed figures (diverse bunch of cars too) and yet when a couple of standard Leon Cupras (same engine as the ED35) were strapped down they were knocking out well above standard figures.

Are you sure? I thought that at the last hot hatch shoot out, it was the Astra VXR or something? The GTI was just too underpowered comparatively.
