Look closely and I'd swear it has a start button instead of a keyhole at the side of the steering wheel.

Does the MKVI GTI have the start button?  I can't remember - I must be getting old! :ashamed:

It's got Kessy, optional keyless entry and start system, but been available in the UK yet.

what a let down.  235HP is woefully underpowered for a 1450kg+ hot hatch.  the bog std cupra has more power and better brakes, surely they could have at least matched that.

At this rate in 5 years time when all the hot hatches are all punching above 300hp as the norm, VW will release the 240Hp Ed40 :chicken: :chicken:

VW do annoy me sometimes! Whats their reluctance to make something really good, a proper 'hot hatch' instead of making something middle of the road.

They need to give the R 300PS so that this one can be properly distanced from the GTI and have around 250PS.

So effectively giving the Golf R a 2.5 engine :jumpmove: :jumping:

but they won't till the mkVII   :sad1:
Golf R gone.

we all know, large capacity petrol cars are gonna be priced off the road..With the soaring cost of petrol.

Anything with a 2.5 litre petrol will put the average motorist off buying it.

it's already started with Ed30's being hard to shift. So anything larger, if the price keeps rising as its projected, you'll have to pay someone to take it off your hands.

The future will be on smaller CC engines, that can produce high power.

in other words, zero chance of a 2.5 in a Golf. sale numbers on RS3's will be an indicator.

Petrol is currently reducing in price.  Supermarkets are starting it off the price war.

But enjoyment is where it is at for me.  I don't smoke, drink too much, Mortgage is tiny, no other vices - so my car is enjoyment for me.

The 2.5T engine is just as frugal, or even slightly better than my Roc R, current average is at 26mpg over the last 1500 miles.  My Ed struggled to see 30 MPG.

2.5T is a revelation, bucket loads of torque, frugal, but by F*** it goes!

I like motoring, and I am happy to spend what is needed to get that enjoyment.  what price enjoyment?  Can't take it with you.............

Word has it none will ever get one, it's owned by quattro GmbH rather than VAG as a group - so I think they'll just use it for their RS cars. Weird set up, I know.
Sideways yo!

I'm interested to see if this is the newer engine EA888 engine or a de-tuned old style R engine

You can get a 2.5 Golf, just not over here or with a turbo!
