I can see where you are coming from though.

Will definitely be worth seeing the engine and tuning potential of the car, even if it does't look all that.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

In that case, VW have gone backwards.

ED30 weighed 1406kg for a 5dr DSG and the ED35 weighs 1431kg for a 5dr DSG.

Looks like middle age spread is becoming an issue again :signLOL:

Mind you it is still lighter than a Golf R at 1571kg for a 5dr DSG :surprised:

Don't compare 'paper weights'.

The truth is all Mk.VI weight slightly less than their Mk.V predesessors.

Hey, and I don't know any 5dr DSG with only 1406 kg. My 3dr manual is about that.
Remember all these include driver and fuel.

Wow, you're beginning to sound like our old mate TT who used to post on here.

I bow to your superior knowledge in that case!  :notworthy:

+1

can you imagine a post off between the bruce and TT.  it'd be biblical

@  the bruce where is all this info coming from?  other forums, dealers, bob @ the pub?

I'm taking the weights directly from VW PDF technical files and all say the weights "conform" to directive 80/1268/EEC.

Am I missing something in translation?

I did think that the Golf R was lighter than the Sportback S3 though
Golf R gone.

Janner, I was in that business for 10 years and I know some people at VW.
But all I said is no secret but common knowledge in the best informed German GTI forum.

I had 1407 kg including me (90 kg) and 3/4 tank. Standard GTI of course.

But there won't be any huge difference between BWA and BYD.
The slightly heavier weight of the ED30 (and ED35) comes from the
better equipment from factory. A similar equipped AXX/BWA will have
the same weight.

It's like history repeating itself, same thing happens with each 'anni' imo...

MK4... Initially received a lukewarm reception due to it 'only being a GTi with a bodykit and fancy rims blah blah blah'... then everyone realises it has a ko3s, the added extras are a bargain and all of a sudden the 'scene' can't get enough...

MK5... Again the same lukewarm reception and a huge number of forum banter about it being a letdown, 'just a GTi with a bodykit and some boring grey BBS rims, 230Bhp is a joke in the current hot hatch market blah blah blah'... then everyone wakes up to the fact it has a Ko4 and the extra kit is actually a bargain and all of a sudden its the darling of the scene again and hugely popular...

MK6... Same is happening all over again... my 2p worth... Give it a year and people will be trading in their grandparents for one...

Theres also reference to the ED35 on ETKA, can somebody with an updated version have a look at the turbo?

PS Beddie good post....

If anybody is still thinking their Eddys and Pirelli's are worth 15k+ I suggest you sell them quick before the stark unforgiving brutality of the motor trade rises up and smites thee.....

Mk5 prices will tumble just like Mk4 ones did
