The German configurator shows xenons as standard, but might change for the UK. Anyone know if they were standard on German Ed30s?

I think I may have taken a load of pictures of this and not even realised it was the ED35.

Not a good sign IMHO.

....If the Mk6 was widely known as the Mk5.5, then what is the Ed35? - Ed30.5?

I think that us enthusiasts have far greater expectations of anything with a GTI badge than VW do - They seem to view it as just an extra options version. I actually think that the GTI Excessive is more worthy of the title:

I completely agree, it's very disappointing.

I don't doubt it is a nice car, but is it really special enough to be a "Special Edition"? Performance-wise it doesn't look so, and the visual extras are barely recognisable to most.

I guess the concept of the Special Edition car has been diluted over the years, and I'm rather skeptical that they do an Edition x car every 5 years.

....Exactly, and that's the point: It simply ain't special enough. That new BMW 1M(?) which TopGear featured on Sunday is a true special edition and so is the Audi RS3.

Agreed. I'd be in favour of one such model each *10* years, not 5...

Why is the Sedate looking RS3 special?  I can see the argument for the 1M, by virtue of the numbers manufactured, paint available, and interior.  Not sure about the RS3 though.  Badly disguised Halfords run out model IMO, however - cracking engine!

....The RS3 is also only being produced in limited numbers AFAIK. It may look a bit sedate but not compared with the S3 when both are not aftermarket modified. Agreed not so specially different as the BMW is but I think the S3>RS3 differences are more pronounced than the Mk6>Ed35. That RS 5-pot engine is certainly a serious differentiator and winner  :notworthy:

I liked what I saw of the ED35, it's understated and smart. I'd happily be given one.

Every single time ... "it's not special enough" "it's not fast enough" "why isn't it 6 wheel drive with guns on the roof"...
Sideways yo!

I disagree but i see Golf GTIs different they never were the boy racer skirted winged hot hatches like the 'exclussive' posted. That was never what the golf GTI was about. Neither were the golf GTI special editions. They were never much different to the normal cars in the past 28 years. VW left that in history to the Ford escort RS/XR/GTI/ST/Cosworths, MGrover turbos, the Astra GTE/GSI/VXRs, Peugeot GTIs, Renaults GT/RSsport and such like. VW comercials use to play on it too. If the 'enthusiasts' expect more , then sorry they don't know the brand very well. Plus the GTI name/brand has been held back since 1993 by its adopted favourate child brother the R brand. Then a few years later to some extent by its 'sporty brand' cousin Cupra & older brother Audi.

.... :signLOL: Now there's an idea for some mods - Carl would be the man to advise, also cmdrfire.

Yep, most folks fall into two distinct categories: Those who like understated stealth and those who like in yer face 'look at me' on the stage under the spotlight. No prizes for guessing which I am

....Very true. But you're sounding like a man of my age and tastes and desires change. Why stay stuck with how the brand used to be? :happy2:
