MFD2 - Parrot option for bluetooth not the best?

I've got a MY2005 with MFD2, MFSW and VW Phone Prep Kit (the only that holds nokia's).  Keen on getting bluetooth for my Iphone 3GS/4.

I've been thinking about getting a Parrot plus multican interface so I can use the MFSW. However, I've read in a number of threads that some people are looking to swap their Parrot installations out for an OEM or another option.

Can I ask what the issues tend to be? Sound quality? Suggestions on best option would be great.  Not that fussy about upgrading to a RNS-510 - the 6-cd changer I've got is enough for me and I never use the SATNAV.

Would an OEM option give me the phone book on my highline display?

There is no great problem with the parrot kits and multican, it is however a little bit of a pain to program the multican with your MFSW.

Sound Quality has a whole is pretty good. Never used or played with OEM kit to compare.

Perhaps people are swapping to OEM as insurance companies seem to like the Factory VW/Audi parts over aftermarket parts perhaps?
No sure, just thought it could be one of the reasons.

But ultimately, I would think the seemless integration with factory parts.

And yes OEM will give you phone book with Highline. Parrot kits nope.

Don't think the OEM Bluetooth integrates particularly well with the MFD2, as it's more designed for 3rd Gen head units (RCD & RNS 510), to get the onscreen phonebook etc.

I had a Parrot CK3000 evolution unit fitted with my MFD2 using a quick-connects CAN harness, and it worked fantastically well. Excellent sound quality, full integration with the MFSW ( be it the early 2 phone button one or the later one button one). Voice dialling on my 3GS (using IOS 4) worked surprisingly well too.

As for coding, well there isn't any, it was truly plug & play. Unless you want to upgrade to one of the later touchscreen head units, in my option it's one of the better and most cost effective options.

I've got the CK3000 Evolution and have no problems with it.  Yes, it would be nice to have the phonebook etc integrated into the highline but it's just a nice to have, not a need to have IMO.

If it's set-up to work with the MFSW, does holding down the phone button the steering wheel activate voice dialing?

It should yes

Normally its a case of press the green call button on the parrot once and it does the same, though the CK3100 support full voice activation for functions too

On my CK3000 Evolution if you hold the button down it will dial the last number you called without you saying anything.  If you just press and let go then that activates the voice dialling.

I'm looking to get a cost effective BT solution for my 56 plate mk5 R32 and sounds like the Parrott would work fine for me so I could use the voice calling from my phone.


Do I just need a Parrott kit CK3000 and a connects2 harness for the steering wheel ? If anyone could give me some links or something would be most greatful ?

Whilst we're on the Parrott 3000 topic, where do you all mount your microphones? Mines on the A frame pillar by the sun visor and I'm told it sounds terrible as it picks up a lot of road noise...on the motorway it's almost pointless..

Mine is up where the interior light is to the right hand side. That appears to be ok, but I may look to replace it with the OEM mic for neatness
