DSG - has anyone experienced this?
« on: April 04, 2011, 09:06:29 am »
Hi Guys,

I've discovered a problem on my GTi DSG - when it's been on a good high-speed run and the fluid is obviously up to a decent temperature, the car lurches from the line and is very jerky in the lower gears at low speed.  Also when coasting to a stop, there is a pronounced clunk and lurch forward as the car engages 1st gear.  The car does not do this when cold or up to temperature on town-driving etc, only when it's been on motorways.

I've read other posts and think that a DSG reset when the fluid is up to temp would be worth doing, but I would like to know if any other owners have had the same problem.  The car had the fluid and filter change last september by the way - and has been done twice to date.

Cheers,

Kenny

Mine has a slight clunk when going into 1st sometimes, but im assured its nothing to worry about and merely due to it being a high torque gear

Its not jerky at all though, so that may suggest a deeper problem

Id try a dsg reset. If it doesnt clear, it may be a mechatronics issue but hopefully not!

As I've just got the car, I have the opportunity to take out warranty (I sourced the car trade, so got it cheap!) - just in case the Mechatronics is shot!

Am I wrong, but would there be a problem at all temperatures if the mech unit was knackered?

Not necessarily. It can be a variety of things that cause issues

When was the oil and filter last changed?

Take the warranty!

Oil & Filter changed last september.

Is the best warranty through Warranty Direct ?? ... that covers the mech unit etc.  What sort of cost is it?

Your looking at £950+vat and labour, around £1800-depending on your dealers labour rate
Average for a mech unit

took mine into VW on Thursday last week as it did the same 'lurch't etc. It had always done this, I bought it 2nd hand from VW 2 yrs ago and they never told me this was an issue! Turns out that the mechatronics need replacing. Good news that I am selling the car so I can advertiese a brand new DSG mechatronics box,bad news is this part is on backorder with VW ~ 14 days which would suggest that they might be replacing the odd one or two!!

I have now purchased the Warranty Direct warranty and also paid extra to cover dealer labour rates. - just need to get it looked at now and hopefully it'll need a new Mech unit!

Not sure if people are aware but its under £300 for warranty from vw and that's everything included even full roadside recovery so would possibly work out cheaper than an aftermarket one.
