At the risk of entering an argument, which I don't really want to do:
1. I'm not a detailing guru, pure and simple.
2. You don't need an artificial light source to use a machine polisher. It does help if you're doing paintwork correction or a professional job. Natural light is good for most people.
3. Someone who is into polishing in a big way would definitely posted 50/50 shots - look at Jay's work.
4. The OP has already stated he used a machine polisher
