Oil used by VW Dealers
« on: April 06, 2011, 07:02:48 am »
Anyone know what oil the main dealers use during their services and if Castrol Edge is better?

Thanks

I think it depends on the franchise to be honest - for a while mine was using Mobil 1, then they were using Quantum.  I suspect it depends on what they can get the cheapest.  As long as it meets the standard it should be fine.  Retail is different though - as above they mostly sell quantum.

You can get 1 litre top up packs of Castrol Edge from the stealer for £16.95. Or the same pack for £10 from Asda.

It's just I can get the Oil (6 Ltrs of Edge) and Oil filter for £70ish from Opieoils and wondered if I'd be better going to dealer and getting friends discount from a mate.

Even to cash sales over the counter, its about that price  :happy2:

Worth giving them a call to be fair...you'd be surprised what you save.

Just spoke to them and they said £42 for 5 ltr of Long life though if not doing long life service then I could use £25 stuff...

Should I use Long life?

Always use longlife regardless of service plan - much better on the engine

The general consensus is use longlife as T&D so change every 10k. Its not recommended to run it for 20k like VW says as it gets rather black and worn out by this point
