Quick RNS510 question
« on: April 29, 2011, 09:21:51 am »
Seeing that the mother in law has turned up ( :fighting:) to watch the wedding I thought it was about time I looked at installing my RNS 510.

My question is this:
I have a 'K' gateway that I also need to install but do I need to get it coded or is it a simple plug in?

Cheers

You won't have a battery drain issue, so simple plug and play. The unit will work okay without telling the car it's there, but realistically you need to tell it you have the satnav install. You'll need access to VCDS for this.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

There is a possibility that you will have the battery drain issue on a K gateway - it depends what software version and the date stamped on it is

Thanks for the info.

So in theory I can install the unit (version C) today, gain access to VCDS at a later date, and be out of the house and miss the wedding & the in-law?

Happy days :jumpmove:

If you are changing the gateway, youll need access to VCDS today to code the gateway to work in the car, else it wont work at all and youll have big problems  :signLOL:

Where are you based Rich?

Ah ok I see what you mean.

I'm based in Birmingham.

If that's the case, do I need to have access to VCDS before if start swopping things around or would I be able to fit it, then drive somewhere to get it coded?

Apologies for the questions but as you can kinda guess, this is a tad out of my comfort zone  :signLOL:
