The 2.0 TFSI unit
« on: April 10, 2011, 10:14:12 pm »
This engine sems to be a great engine in terms of economy and power.

Are there any online articles which specificaly discuss the engine by tuners for example, like Puma Racing used to do with the Peugeot MI16 engines, as would like to learn more about the lump which powers our cars..

What is the difference between an FSI and TFSI. Bit of a noob here. Have seen some MKV GTI bonnets open and it just states FSI on the engine. What models/year has the TFSI?

Thanks and apologies for my total lack of knowledge

All GTI models have a 2.0T FSI ie a 2.0 Turbo FSI lump

VCDS Scanning/Coding, RNS and MDI retrofits, and specialist mechanics services with VAGtek available - Just PM me for details.

All GTI models have a 2.0T FSI ie a 2.0 Turbo FSI lump

Some of the later years came with the CCTA block, the so-called "TSI" (which is still a turbocharged engine, not twincharged as the TSI moniker would suggest) which is a completely different (and new!) engine compared to the one known as "TFSI". TFSI/FSI covers AXX/BYP/etc.

Most Mk5 GTI were built using an engine based on EA113

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines#EA113

Scroll down to:
2.0 R4 16v TFSI 125-210kW

The EA888 "World Engine" developed by Audi was introduced towards the end of the Mk5 GTI, and was used on all Scirocco and Mk6 GTI as well as Audi A3 etc.

ThE EA113 is still used in various forms on the S3/GTI-R/Scirocco R/etc.
