Hide your cars
« on: April 09, 2011, 05:02:58 pm »
There is a sand on it's way apparently coming over from Africa in our clouds
there was a freak sand storm in Germany yesterday which caused several deaths. Very bizarre weather and very bad for paintwork I would imagine. It could be like driving through a sandblasted lol.

Sorry for the poorly written post but I am doing it on my iPhone :)

 I think the incident in Germany was due to a lot of recently ploughed fields and dry weather / winds rather than sand from Africa ...

True. If sand has got from The North African desert to Rostok on the Baltic coast, it will have reached the UK by now. It was indeed from dry weather & ploughing fields, as the report states.

Sand showers warning as temperatures set to peak

Forecasters warn of huge dust cloud as April showers to spread sand

However, showers are expected to put a slight dampener on things on Sunday, with some even containing Saharan sand.

Mr Mayes said: "Sometimes when you have southern winds, you get Saharan dust suspended in the atmosphere. It moves across Europe at several thousand feet above the ground.

"But if you get rain falling through it, it carries the dust particles. People usually tend to notice it on their cars. There will be one or two light showers late Sunday, but nothing to spoil the weekend too much."

Reminds me of this time last year when all the volcanic ash started dropping on the car.

That ash was nasty to paintwork!
