Anyone got recall info?? Fuel pump and ECU??
« on: April 11, 2011, 06:15:42 pm »
Ok so I went to the stealers today who I must say did not seem impressed that I went in there to ask if my 06 Golf had any outstanding recalls. Anyway it turns out that my car needs THREE recalls and not just the one like I was expecting. They're low presure fuel sender, igniton coil and ecu update recall.
They are quoting 3 hours for the car. They ask if it had been "tweaked". Whether he was implying that because I'm young I dunno but it is standard. Its an 06 plate. Anyone able to shine some light on these recalls, only able to find info on the ignition coil one.

Thanks

My 05 GTI had a recall for an updated version of sofware (ECU) and a heat shield upgrade, I was only notified as my mate is a technican at my local VW dealer!

ECU update is routine updates to the car software

Low pressure fuel sender was a recall on early GTIs a few years back

Nothing to worry about

Thanks. I've managed to get hold of a friend who is a VW Tech who hopefully will get me some info tomorrow. Are they replacing LP i wonder. Would the ECU update clear any remap if I did have one, don't at the moment. Wonder if it will drive any better

The reason he asked if it had been 'tweaked' is because the ECU update can overwrite any remap that has been done.

Sadly, like many you are making an error in assuming that these items are Recalls, they aren't, they are what VW generally call Campaigns.  As they are not Recalls VW are not duty bound to inform the vehicle owner of the update/fix availability.  In this case I think your dealership are correct, and if you haven't had the car in the workshop at a VW dealer the update/fix will not have been applied.

Recalls are notified to VOSA and can be checked here - http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/search.asp

A summary of the ones which may affect the MK5 Golf are -

Yeh the dealer invoice to VW Warranty so FOC. Although i've yet to go back again. Didn't have coils in stock apparetly. Although I have found the leds ive got in the footwell flicker now since ECU upgrade. May be coincidence though, not sure if its related in any way

FFS they aren't recalls  :stupid:

If they were VW are duty bound to notify you of them and not just rely on you turning up at a dealership.  They would also be recorded with VOSA.

Workshop updates.....  mines in today at VW
I am hoping the software updates will get rid of my epc & cel light error, I had an independent VAG specialist check it and was told the error was something like Memory Check Sum Error. He reckons I need a new ecu  :scared: or a software update.

I think the software update normally fixes the checksum error.
