RNS 510 Firmware update in Northern Ireland?

Hi there,

Just got an RNS510 LED version and alledgedly out of a 2010 Golf R.

I was checking out the Nav system and there isn't a postcode facility that i've found yet, I was told it had the V7 maps.

Looking to see if the firmware is the latest and if not, is there anyone in Northern Ireland on the forum who could update the system.

If not I'll be in Telford over the Easter weekend and could arrange to meet someone.

Also someone mentioned the secret menu to find the system details, any links?

Ver C LED ones have to have the secret menu activated in VCDS by enabling Development Test Mode on Channel 51 in Adaptation

There will be postcodes on there, but you would need to have v7 for full postcode to work

Go into the address entry page, and try typing a postcode in, add the space, then the end and see if it works ie AB12 SPACE 3CD

I'll have to wait til the end of the week to check it out as my GTi is in getting a little colour coding to the side skirts and front and rear splitters.

I got the car back and the colour coding is what I wanted.

Back to the RNS, I tried entering a postcode into the address and when I had entered the first 4 it goes straight to an option menu listing the 5 number and the area, then you can add the address.

There is no way I can enter the 7 digits of the postcode.

So I guess I don't have a V7 Maps.

Also I tried to get up the hidden menu by holding the setup button, the radio menu appears and nothing else.

My car is an 08 and the unit is alledgedly out of an 2010 Golf R.

I'll have the unit out in the next two days to fit the aerial adaptor lead so I can read the markings on the unit. Is there anything I need to look for?

There's no way you can tell which maps are on the unit.

You need two things - latest firmware and latest maps.

As stealthwolf says, it suggests you are probably on V6 or earlier maps, so the only way to sort this is either enable the secret menu, or just upgrade the firmware and maps and problem solved

Problem, I don't know of anyone on the forum based in Northern Ireland that has the capability to update the firmware and the maps.

I said earlier that I'll be in Telford over the Easter weekend for a competition and it could be possible to meet up with someone whilst i'm over, is there anyone close by that has the capablilty to help me out for beer tokens.

Had the head unit out again and found the software number.

Had to install the aerial adaptor lead, FM reception is now alot better.

Thats a Ver C on SW 2680 then, but apart from that I cant tell you what maps it has

You shouldn’t need to update the firmware as V7 map and postcode search will work O/K with 2680.

Is a map upgrade not a simple DIY anyway?

I feel your pain about NI though, theres a severe lack of people who can do such VCDS wizardry like fitting highlines etc over here!
