A little help please
« on: April 03, 2011, 07:04:45 pm »
So i've recently fitted my RNS 510 (many thanks to Alexperkins & Creatz for your help and advice :drinking:) which went surprisingly well for my level of DIY :pomppomp:. So with my knew found confidence in car audio i'm looking to install a mic for the voice control & mdi for the ipod. I've been trawling through several threads over the last week and my head is swimming with part numbers and variables :rolleye:. Can someone confirm for me if i'm on the right track. MDI p/n 5N0 057 342- i'm looking to fit this behind the head unit, also i know i need the Mdi-ipod cable p/n 000 051 446c, but looking at these on ebay alot of the listings say not for  RNS 510 (NOT 1T0035680) which mine is a version c. Is this right and if so which is the correct part number. My next problem is i already have the basic ipod prep fitted and when it comes to adding the Mdi i'm not sure what i need to remove or leave alone! I've found the kufatec loom for the voice control and seen a couple of threads on the subject. If anyone has a how to would be great! Sorry it's a bit long winded, as always any help is very much apperciated :notworthy:. James

5N0057342 is the right part number for your C version (it was the original RNS510 that VW didn't support), I think you have a 1T0035680C

000051446C is the ipod 30 pin adaptor cable

I think you just need to remove the CD changer cable from the back of the RNS as the original ipod kit emulated a cd changer, connector 3 on this link http://www.my-gti.com/529/volkswagen-rns-510-pin-assignments

Sorry Alex i was only just working out how to link the webpage (all new to me) :innocent:

Which of the two or are they both the same, i'm waiting on the armrest version 5N0 035 341B which i'm planning on releasing from it's casing and either fitting behind the head unit or under the ashtray area. So which would be the correct harness :rolleye:
