Edition 30- Price too good to be true?

One of my mates now fancies a GTI and is looking at ED30's as his first choice- he showed me this car http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/used/search/#-

But for such a low mileage the price seems too good to be true- any thoughts?

Looks about £1000-1500 over the top.  Looks a fairly low specced car.

but other VW garages are asking this money for same reg ed30 cars with mileage around 40-45k which is why I thought it a bit strange this price was the same.

VW are asking too much.

Take a look at this one, fully loaded, and some nice mods, and i reckon £12500 will see it bought!

^^^ 2 more seats and if I had a buyer for mine I would snap that up...would even consider the 3 doors, if I had mine away.

The OP's is poverty spec really and seems overpriced to me as well.

Aye, next to no extras at all. It may be low mileage, but thats still alot for a basic ED30

If you check volkswagens used Edition 30 stock, they are still fetching 17k  :laugh:

Seems 5dr dsg Ed30's have a premium...

My local dealer has a Silver Ed30 5dr dsg for £5 short of 17k!!!!

People selling for less then 12K?? , id put the price up  :signLOL:

VW Dealers will ask what they think they will get away with.  My old Roc is on the forecourt for just shy of £29k, I paid less than 26K in Sept 10.  Same Dealer has a 6K miles old 210 Roc for £27k.

A friend (old work mate) is a salesman at my local dealership.  He reckons per transaction, so car taken in and out, he has been instructed to get over £8000 profit on a Family hatchback deal (This will increase with increased car values - Eg Porsche way more %age per car).  So he will only offer you lower trade price, and expect top trade price for his car.  All a case of what he get away with.

So that dealer putting an Ed up for 17k, would have probably offered 11-12k trade in on a A1 car with low miles, slapped it up for 17K expecting to be knocked down, or have capacity for a bank holiday sales push.  

Higher miles and the price drops.  Spec has very little to do with trade in price, but everything to do with sale price.

So this chap   (Below) has probably been offered a very low trade in, given the miles and the Dealers aversion to Mods, and is trying to get a few more £, ready to buy new from the dealer.  They would have slapped his car in the auction, and got what they could for it, hence the risk of £ loss being taken from them with a low Trade in value.

I find one of the best ways to find a main dealer car at a lower price is to find your chosn car at say a vauxhall dealership within a large chain ....For example a vauxhall dealer local to me has a 123d msport with 17000 miles on clock for £17000...the same chain has in it's BMW dealership the same car but with 38000 mies for £3k dearer!

A while back we saved about £2k on a Honda Jazz by the same buying technique, got the car for £6k similar jazz's were £8k then three years on traded it for £4.5k.

Also nothing stopping you going to the BMW dealership in the case above and asking to look at group stock I guess then you get the benefit (if there is any) from buying a from BMW franchised dealer at the reduced price. I guess it's in the car preparation and should you need to go back to them etc....

So VW will chance their arm to get the highest possible price for those perceived benefits but you can ram it up them if you find the car you want within a multi franchise organisation and get the vw dealer (within that franchise) to sell it to you.

Good point, I bought my Roc R from a Lotus dealer.

Another advantage to buying from a non-franchised dealer is that often they don't really know what they have.

My Roc R had 19's, Dynaudio, Folding Mirrors, leather etc, and the salesman told me it was a standard car and they all came with Leather, 19's etc.
