Remap's talk to me...
« on: April 13, 2011, 02:04:02 pm »
Well the time has come to join the modding world, but first I have some questions. My car is ED30 DSG and I have been looking into this for a while now and my thoughts so far are;

Bluefin remap with the aim to go satge 2 (exhaust upgrade sometime in the future) - I am not looking to take the car stage 2+. I like the idea of Bluefin as it can be reverted back to the 'stock' code at the touch of a button which is handy for when the other half uses the car etc.

I know about some of the other tuners i.e. Revo, GIAC etc and I am aware that they can offer similar products in terms of switching the map on/off. Basically I am looking for some opinions on remaps, is there really much difference between the tuners? So far I am swaying towards the Bluefin but I am open to suggestions.

Also the car in standard form is 'very quick :happy2:' but just how much faster are we talking for a stage 1 or stage 2 remap and am I likley to notice a big difference infuel consumption?

Cheers.

If you go for bluefin, bear in mind it takes about 20mins to switch back to stock mode.
Bluefin drives more like the normal map, until about 4k revs then takes off. It is more fuel efficient than the revo, but not as quick. More people go for Revo on here, as it is more aggressve and feels quicker, and has more torque etc.
Revo can be switched back to stock in about 10 seconds.
Then again, I thought the PDtuning remap was better than the bluefin, but doesnt have the switchability of the other 2, but is cheaper.
I had an engine light come on with Revo stage 2+, swapped parts over, still there, so got a refund.
I'm currently in th progress of getting a shark performance remap, which also has the option of switching back to stock.
If you are wanting to know what a stage 1 remap is like. go to your revo dealer and get a 5hr free trial, after the 5hrs is up, the car goes back tostock power. But... if you decide to go to another tuner after the trial, you must go back to the revo dealer and get the ecu flashed back to stock, otherwise you could run into difficulties getting a remap from elsewhere, as there is a small amount of code stored in the ecu which wont let the likes of bluefin work afterwards.

Personally Id just go straight to Shark Performance and get one of his maps and the STS unit.  Ben has always been very helpful and doesnt force a sale by 'bigging up' his own maps.  He can also offer a trial period of his maps but you do need to take your car to him in Mansfield.   The good thing about the STS unit is that when you come to sell your car, upload the original map and you can then re use it for your next car and remap.  Plus the STS is a fault code reader and has come in handy a time or two  :smiley:

I run Revo stage 2. It is 2mpg better than stock, much crisper , more responsive and 'cleaner', no issues what so ever. Very, very pleased the previous map a no brand stage 1 before I fitted the down pipe, was laggy, had over spooling, was very jerky and less mpg than stock. I would rather have stock than the 'no brand' (branded but not well known) and the Revo is superb for stage 2.
