I just got back from having the car serviced with VW today.

I mentioned the DSG problems and they confirmed it does need a new mechatronics unit.

Luckily (even though I'm out of warranty and the car is coming up to 4 years old) as I have FVWSH they have agreed to pay 100% of the parts and 50% of the labour to replace it! :happy2:

From a Poll I ran on this forum, 57 reg GTi's seemed to be the worst for failures  .

Oh great i have just brought a DSG 57 VW lol.

Is this all VW garage that offer the % payout ?

Does the mechatronics have to go before they do it or they know its a common problem and sort it out straight away ?

This is all starting to concern me a little.

I think if mine went and I had to pay out, I would look into getting a Manual box fitted instead.

£2k including fitting is what I heard - I know the unit costs over £1k at least.

They said they are making a goodwill gesture considering the age/mileage of the car and the fact it has full VW history.

I previously read of them offering the same deal so I'm very happy with the outcome and the fact I didn't have to jump through hoops to get it. They simply phoned me up and told me the mechatronics unit needed replacing and they were going to pay towards it, although the unit takes 10 days to be shipped from Germany.

The fact the car is under 4 years old (just) may help. :happy2:

VW know it's a common problem so keep pushing for it if you have any trouble getting a replacement!

you dont often get paperwork with warranty repairs.. i didnt with my car and that had the mechatronic unit changed (under warranty) at 6k by the first owner..
