No. There is a less pressure drop across a THS/APR intercooler than a GTi/s3 intercooler, meaning the turbo has to work less hard to meet the specified boost...

The actual power gain from an efficient intercooler design over OEM is typically between 4% and 8% with a temperature drop of 35C-40C and this will obviously depend on the ambient temperature - the bigger the difference between intake temp and ambient temp the better the cooling effect.
As a general rule of thumb a slightly bigger intercooler will have better cooling properties although it usually creates more drag.  This extra drag needs be carefully weighed up against the cooling offered. The longer the air is inside the intercooler the better the cooling effect will be.
In other words, not much that can be accurately measured on a rolling road from this weekend and cold temps.

So you're telling me a car that made 309bhp on stage 2 on a standard GTi I/C on a 22deg day on B8T5F7 should only make 9bhp extra on stage2+ with an uprated I/C on a 6deg day with settings B8T6F8!? Same rollers.

Maybe I should have gone Superchips...  :P

I didn't think that an intercooler makes much difference on a dyno  :popcornsoda:

Sure does....

Care to explain how this is then rich?...

It doesn't Robin.. There are too many other variables to consider, one of which is the dyno  :signLOL:  :popcornsoda:

Hot air temperature dueing spring / summer or warm days is when an intercooler helps engine cooling and Sustained power output,
On a typical cold winters day, it's not gonna make the blindest bit of difference, and show on a dyno, that already has too many other variables as was proven yesturday

An efficient FMIC should still show a decrease in temps over a stock FMIC even on a cold day.

Exactly what I thought, it is supposed to cool the charged air... it's not cooling ambient air.

I don't think there is any doubt that an aftermarket intercooler is of benefit when driving enthusiastically on very hot summer days (remember them?) and of course on trackdays.

What I was uncertain about was their benefit on the rollers - What added bhp numbers might be gained as a direct result in that particular context.

Has anyone done back-to-back dyno sessions without and then with an aftermarket intercooler?

Dom, did you ever dyno the car on stage 2+ before fitting the IC?

I can't say I've noticed any significant gains since fitting my IC. I didn't think IC's were supposed to 'give' you any power gains, just helps prevent loss of any ponies due to heat and other conditions. However, I would say 318bhp does seem a bit low for your car with your mods. :sad1:

No unfortunately not... The I/C was added then it went stage 2+... I thought it felt stronger on stage 2 with the I/C added, may just be placebo...

Yeah, thought Stage2+ was supposed to give more, was certainly under that impression...

The AFR is flat at 12.4 on F8, reckon it would help to go F7 to bring it closer to 12.0 or as Leaner=faster keep it as it is...

Don't forget that Revo have revised all their K04 codes.

So were you on new Stage 2 before going 2+ or was it the old Stage 2 and you now have the revised 2+ code?

Go back to stage 2 if you think it was better. You're not the first person to dislike Stage 2+ and also see no big difference from Stage 2.

I was indeed old stage 2, and onto new stage 2+ files... Believe Dawain was the same...

Will be going APR if anything!

That's fine if you like leaving your car at Milton Keynes for months on end 'cos it's broken.
