2.0 tdi crankcase pressure
« on: April 17, 2011, 09:14:12 am »
My 2004 GT tdi 140 108k miles seems to have a lot of pressure in the crankcase, when you remove the oil filler cap or the dipstick you can see the fumes coming out (not blue or white steam). This happens when the engine is hot or or cold. It also happens on another car I know (2004 Gt tdi 140 with 67k miles). My car burns no oil to speak of, no blue smoke on startup or accelaration. Is this normal ?
I've come from a Mk 4 1.8T with a pcv system which had no pressure at all, it has been suggested this is normal with diesels having higher  compression ratios than petrols and also that the 2.0 tdi vents straight from the rocker cover to the air intake (which seems clear also)

Any diesel experts out there that can shed any light please ?
