DSG problems

Just to let you know, my Edition 30 which has DSG is playing up.

It's been back to VW and it requires a new Mecatronix (spell?) unit, VW are aware of this problem and the unit will be replaced no problem. Not all cars are affected.

The problem I noticed was the car would hesitiate when you go to pull away, nothing would happen then the car would jolt and move off, now taking to the guys tonight (in Telford) others have also had/heard of this problem, but in reverse gear, the car would suddenly shoot backwards when reverse was selected.

The car has been back to the dealers, they did a brief road check with me riding shotgun, confirmed yes it had the fault, car stayed with them for the day, they did some more checks on it and reprogrammed something (mecatronix unit?) then road test it, VW recommend 10 miles, the cheeky monkeys put nearly 30 on my car!!!! anyway it's failed and a new unit is on order, 2-3 weeks from VW. 

(they won't be putting 30 miles on it's next test run!!! )

I'll let you know what happens/how long...

How old is the car and what is the mileage on the clock?

The car is 8 months old and has 3k on the clock

Thanks for posting this up MR Chops. Its reassuring to know that VW will replace this and also a good reference if other DSG cars develop this problem.

I had a Mechatronics Module problem at about 6,000 miles and it was replaced under warranty. My understanding is that all DSG issues are dealt with beyond the dealership frontline. Am now approaching 63k miles.

My Audi A3 DSG had this fault, but I also had extra issues of kangarooing and stalling

The mechatronic unit was replaced before I'd even reached 1k miles as it was a safety issue, especially after it had stalled whilst turning onto a main road!

....No further problems whatsoever. Occasionally a bit clunky from 1st to 2nd.

Mechatronic units run for around £4k as I recall. Not sure if VW will replace one out of warranty (which I am - 82k miles!). Marvellously complex things.. I sat in on some mechatronics lectures in uni, crazy complex stuff. Cool for building robots.

You sat in on some lectures? Are you mad? It was a core module for me...  I did built a pretty cool robot that could guide it's self though.

My eee degree specialisations had more stuff in embedded and comms, but I was interested in the mecha stuff. I sat through about four lectures before my brain gave up all I know to do is throw microprocessors at stuff
