Fitting S3 lower wishbones this wkend. Any tips?
« on: April 19, 2011, 06:13:14 pm »
As the title says...any tips? I am probably going to use the original bolts. Am I going to need the alignment checking afterwards?? or can I get away without having to have it done?

Cheers

Only tip I can give is you will need it adjusting afterwards any work on the suspension should require at least a check afterwards to see if it's all pointing in the right direction and as your making the wheel stick abit further out with the new arms then it should need adjusting  :happy2:

S3 lower wishbones/control arms are same length as the GTI ones . TT mk 2 are longer than GTI ones  :happy2:

Over the top mod list ;o)

That's what I thought Danish but with the added negative camber.

Same as a normal GTI I thought. The negative camber comes from the TT arms because they are longer.

Are the arms including rear mounts? If you want to remove them you need a hydraulic press to do so  :happy2:

These are what I am hoping to fit:

I am after a reduction in unsprung weight so the negative camber idea was a added side effect to me. I assume these are just a case of unbolting the orignals and bolting these on. If there is no difference in length and camber then should I really need the alignment checked?

I would say no, but if in doubt then measure the one you take off with one of the S3. As you are using the S3 rear mount there's no need for the hydraulic press.  :happy2:

Yes you would be supprised how much changing like for like can put it out. Even just unbolting everything and putting it all back together can knock it out a touch.

Cheers guys I guess I will just have to fit them and see.

Thanks for the advice and I am glad I don't need a hydraulic press.......I can get access to a trouser press but not a hydraulic press
