Fitting LED Sidelights

Hi Guys,

I purchased a set of LED Sidelight for my GT Sport which arrived yesterday, when I got home this evening I attempted to fit them but with no joy at all. I removed the rubber cap on the offside which came off without a problem but trying to remove the bulb is impossible.

I am not sure if I should be pulling it or twisting it, either way it really does not want to move. What is worrying is that there isnt as much room on the passenger side which would make me think that this could be even harder.

Hi Guys,

Has any of you guys replaced the sidelight on a Golf 5, I tried to change the OEM for LED the other day and achieved nothing but some cut hands. Not sure if I should be pulling or twisting is there a knack I should know.

Mine was a small twist then pull out, very awkward to do, but it does come out eventually!

Not sure what it's like on Xenons but on halogen headlights it's a PITA. Everyone here who has upgraded them has come off with scraped knuckles at the very least. No twisting, just pull. Some have used pliers to help them but you need to make sure you grip the bulb holder and not the wires.

Did mine within a few minutes and suffered no injuries I must just have skinny hands lol. As said the first mistake is everyone pulls and thinks they wont go and they need to twist them which is the part people struggle with as there a bugger to twist.

The way I did it was grab them holder and wrap the cable around my little finger and just keep pulling, felt like I would snap something but they just then popped out - Don't be afraid they will come out eventually ;)

Grab the side light bulb holder as close to the rear of the main light lens & just pull/twist/rock & the holder will come out,they are a t**t tho  . On the drivers side the black box(filter holder) can be removed(pulled up)to give more room.There is a small clip that need to be pushed in first to let you remove it.

Managed to do the drivers side but I cannot get my hands behind the Airbox for the passenger , mine is a 1.4 TSI so I dont know if thats any different. Looks like the airbox may need to be removed so I can get at it?

Finally managed to get the passenger one out this evening, now I have LED sidelights. Cheers for the help chaps,

I did my sidelights on my Mk5 R32 no problem.

Trying to do them on my GT TDI is impossible! Either my hands have grown in the last 6 months or there is less room in the engine bay of a TDI than there is on an R32!

Total mare of a job, when i first done mine i didnt get can friendly ones so i had to do them again

Can anyone confirm that these sidelight bulbs need to be twisted out or just simply pulled out on the standard GTi headlights?

Had a quick go and after 5mins I thought that I'd best ask before I do any damage

Pull. They seem to be stuck in. Others have used pliers to gain leverage. I've got to change mine soon. They were from powerbulbs and lasted five years despite being on for more than 50% of the time (always have lights on these days).

Took 2mins once I finally got the balls to yank em straight out.

Time to replace mine, I've bought a new set as one has an intermittent fault but I am really struggling to get out the drivers side, when I did the original set, VW even struggled doing it as well!
