No windscreen washer alert?
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:13:47 pm »
VW never cease to amaze me by how cheap they can be.

Thought I had a fault on the car when I emptied the windscreen washer bottle and didn't get a warning light at all. Booked it in to the dealers to have it fixed and was amazed when they checked the chassis number and told me it didn't come with it!

Has anyone else not got this and and is it retrofilttable?

You need to get in touch with Eddie-NL, he was making up looms for this.  :happy2:

Only certain cars have it.  Normally Winter pack or Xenons IIRC.

Once you have the loom you will need a switch (sensor) the grommit and either the larger bottle with the hole in or you can drill a hole in your existing bottle. I would recommend buying the larger one.
Part no's are:
1K0 955 453 s - Bottle
7M0 919 376 - switch (sensor)
7MO 919 382 - washer (grommit)

Like this:

and the larger bottle (now black)

Remember all this will need wiring in and coding. :happy2:

Do you not check the car on a weekly basis? Oil/coolant/washer levels and tyre pressures should be checked weekly.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

As above do you really need yet another warning light to tell you to do something?.Just top mine up as part of the regular checks.

my car had the larger bottle as standard and it didn't have headlight washers. Although it does have them now :signLOL:

A little harsh perhaps? Especially as the bottle is not visible, unlike previous models. And no, I don't spend time sticking my head under the bonnet. I expect to have a warning light to tell me the level in a bottle I cannot see is getting low. My 13 year old GTi had it as standard

Bodger,
Have you fitted one of these kits? I reckon I could put the wiring in and the parts but does it then need coding into the ECU in some way?

You remind me of my sister. She expects her car to tell her everything from whether the washer fluid level is low to whether the tyre pressures are low. You'll be telling me you expect the GTI to come with an oil level sensor next!

I have fitted it and you don't need a new washer bottle and if you intend to make your own loom the plug for the sensor.
It is a 2 wire job.
here is a link to a how to which i did on a different forum

I think its a fair point, can you live without it? - Yes of course you can but I was also disappointed coming from my mk4 GTI which had it as standard to the 'better' mk5 that VW had been cheap enough to remove a system that probably costs less than £10 to install.

Tim I think EddieNL has answered your question but yes it does need coding. Eddie's guide is very good. :happy2:
