I think its a fair point, can you live without it? - Yes of course you can but I was also disappointed coming from my mk4 GTI which had it as standard to the 'better' mk5 that VW had been cheap enough to remove a system that probably costs less than £10 to install.

Yet another example of VW's tight fistedness, along with the door reflectors instead of lights like on the mk4!

And the cords for the parcel shelf that retracted into a spring loaded doofer so your balls don't thump on the rear hatch ...Mk4 was much better built than the mk5 no doubt about it. Unfortunately it didn't handle so good and the GTI's were seriously underpowered. Can't have it all I suppose.
