Steering Wheel Buttons - Changing CD tracks etc
« on: April 21, 2011, 12:52:37 pm »
Hi All,

I have a multi function steering wheel - one of the later versions with one phone button.

I've recently fitted a MFD2 Sat Nav unit and have a CD changer which i'll put in next week.

Anyway my question is how to get the buttons on the RIGHT hand side to change CD tracks etc.

At present the menu button and up/down buttons only change the Multi function display on the dash but don't allow me to do anything with the headunit.

The left hand side buttons are ok and the volume & Mute buttons work fine with the Head unit.

Any Ideas how to get them to work?

Cheers all

To change tracks on the CD, the MFD has to be on 'Audio' which should be one of the options via the menu button.

If listening to the radio, you should be able to change radio stations as well if set to 'Audio'

This the problem - i don't get an "audio" option! The menu button just scrolls through the driver info such as average speed/fuel range etc..

Any ideas how to get to the "Audio" option? Seems strange it doesn't come up as the MFSW and CD player were factory fit.

Does something need to be activated?

cheers

You need to go onto VCDS, enable Navigation in the CAN Gateway long coding/Installation list

Then it will work  :happy2:

If you have a MFSW, you normally have highline to go with it.

But yes, in order to access 'Audio' you need highline

Hi Alex - No Highline in mine  :sad1:

Does that mean no CD control from the MFSW?

Did it work on the old unit via the steering wheel?

Its never worked but i don't whether that was because it wasn't set up or someone had reset something or it's not possible...

^ All models with Midline MFD(multi-function display) after late 2005 will require Highline MFD Upgrade or Early Type Buttons to enable use with the next/previous track functions

Did yours have MFSW from factory? Also, what type buttons does it have. Two phone buttons with a rubber finish?

without the highline you wont be able to use the new style buttons to skip track, since you have an MFD2 you could use the old style buttons.  New style buttons work best with highline and RNS510.

Also incase people wonder the other way old style buttons wont skip track on an RNS510 even when in audio menu in highline you need to use the wiper stalk control for that.

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Very odd that those buttons in yours are the newer style  if they were original I think the new type were from 2007.

The second part of that statement is from the guy with the 2005 GTI where the MFD2 comes from he cant use skip anymore.....

You could get a highline dash and have that installed............ I have one on the way from the states for a fraction of the money they go for in the UK  :innocent:
