VW ECU Updates - Ed30

Does anyone know whether there has been any ECU updates since August 2010 (my last service) for manual 2008 Edition 30s?  My VW dealership reckon they couldn't check without hooking my car up to their computer to see if there are any outstanding and they were going to charge me for the pleasure! 

Also, when dealers do ECU updates to your car do they record them anywhere, or are they supposed to tell you?  My car has been serviced annually (twice) since new and I'm not aware of any being done to it at either service?

I haven't got an ed30 but any ECU updates done to your car should be recorded either on a sticker underneath the boot carpet next to the build sticker and / or logged in the workshop comments section in the back of your service booklet.

I suppose you compare your version as seen in vcds with another ed30...
