OK not a Golf... The Wifes new Polo 6R
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:00:08 am »
Hi guys, not been on here for a couple of weeks. I promised when I posted the details on my new Scirocco, that when I got the wifes new Polo, I would post details here. Well we took delivery of her new VW Polo 6R 1.4 SEL DSG last week, so with the nice weather this weekend, thought i’d give her a good clean up. Sorry not much talk, thought id let the photos do the talking.

And the bit I’m really proud of, the genuine VW 9W7 bluetooth kit that you can't order in the UK and that VW said would not fit in the Polo. Its the same unit as in my Scirocco, and puchased as a complete kit from a spanish ebayer. Took me all of 1 hour to fit and code and works beautifully with both phones and the RCD-510 touch screen headunit.

Looking good andrew. Best colour too  :happy2:

Still cant believe they don't give you a hydraulic bonnet lifter on the new models!!

That is a damn fine example of a OEM Polo you have there. One of the best colours too I reckon.

Very nice job on the Bluetooth and RCD-510 Retro fit.

Alex,
I think I purchased the only 2 cars in VW's current line up that don't use hydraulic lifters (in the Scirocco and Polo)

They are just stingy lol. Funny thing is the scirocco has the stand out for the lifter on the left hand side of the bay!

Actually with the Scirocco, I asked my German colleagues (I work for a German Engineering company), to ask the local dealer what the deal was with the hydraulic bonnet lifter.

Apparently they sent a question to VW headquarters in Wolfsburg and had a reply.

Basically it said that hydraulic bonnet lifter was removed from the Scirocco during NCAP crash tests where they found out due to how low it was from the ground and it's position and angle in the engine bay when closed, in a frontal impact, in some cases the strut penetrated the bonnet and therefore caused a serious pedestrian issue in the case of the car hitting someone head on. It was apparently a last minute change by VW in 2009 (if you believe all this).

On the Polo, I believe it is just cost cutting.

Alex,

Got a couple of clear chemical spray bottles from Cleanyourcar.com about a year ago. So far no problems.  :happy2:

Hehe, this is much better than working
