Alarm no sound
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:37:06 pm »
Last week I borrowed someones VCDS and chnaged some settings....one of which was turning on the blink/horn when locking.

This worked perfectly for a couple of days. But the other night we had a thunder and lightening storm....I was in the back garden and the car is parked at my back gate. My son came in and said the lights were flashing on my car.

Went out and the hazards where flashing as if alarm had gone off. No sound though.

Open the car and then checked all the windows and doors......then locked the car - No Horn notification!

Not sure what to do now.....would disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes reset everything? Ask if I can borrow the VCDS?

Can these settings be lost due to electrical interference? Neighbour said the lightning storm could have messed with it....took that with a pinch of salt though could it be?

Well tested the alarm at lunchtime and the lights go off but the siren doesn't.

Anyone had this before?

You may have changed the Alarm sounder setting in VCDS by mistake

Thought about that though the Horn notification when looking was on when i changed the settings though now doesn't work....nothing has been done to the car except that lightning storm at the weekend....

Might have to hook up the car and have the codes read....might be a fault

I noticed my car doing this when I was jet washing it the other day.

I had an issue with some clocks/dials and had the power steering light come up and the traction control is stuck off, I wonder if it caused this to.

I was just thinking it might be like a warning when it feels some vibration.

Ive seen this a few times in the last couple of months even on a new mk6 GTD golf, the alarm horn is behind the drivers side front wing,

The arch liner will need pulling out so you can get to it but its a silver box and that is riveted in once you take the box off there is a smaller black siren inside which will need changing.

You may find a replacement on eBay?

Cheers Darren......take it I'll need a rivet gun to reattach..

Also will a fault code appear? I might be able to scan it in the next few days.

It should come up in the central electric some thing like no communication with the alarm.

Yes you will need a rivet gun if you intend on riveting it back on but you maybe able to get some oversized screws to put it back in??

Lock the car with the windows down, then stick your head in the window and wave your arms around  :signLOL:

Strangely, I just went outside to park the car and my hazards were flashing too. Normally, the horn's beeping along with it. I suspect it was the chav in the evo giving the new zorst a good work out!

Tried to wave my arms around the interior but no alarm or hazards. Anyone know where the motion/ultrasound sensors are?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
