Wheel Bolts
« on: April 27, 2011, 08:31:50 pm »
Hi all,

Went to take my wheels off for a clean.....bolts have a star type insert rather than normal hex bolts.

They are VW branded, are these normal fit bolts? No wrench in the spare wheel recess.

Anyone know where I can get a wrench to fit?

Cheers

Simon

Please don't tell me they're all locking nuts!  :scared:

Post a pic - would not have thought that they would all be locking wheel nuts, usual to only have one per wheel  :scared:

I've seen it happen to a forumite on a forum somewhere. That was the only reason for mentioning it!

They are the wheel nut covers. Take them off. You should have a looped wire with a hook on the end to pull them off in the boot.

The bolts are underneath.

This is what you're looking for. Finger goes into loop. Hooked edge goes into centre of cover and pull out.

Remember, once the wheel's off, you can remove the centre cap by using a screwdriver to pop it out from behind. Replacement's about £5 from VW.

.........if you haven't got one of these an old metal coat hanger can be bent to make one.
