Agree absolutely... the car's designed for the higher rated stuff, and has never been as smooth (or returned the same mpg) whenever I've been forced to use the 'cooking' stuff, quite apart from the drop-off in response.

What they said! :)

Yep, open the fuel filler and it tells you to use 98ron and 95 only in rare occasions.

I use Tesco99.

Why buy a performance car and put cheap sh*tty petrol in it.

98ron all the time :happy2: NEVER EVER use 95  My mate who has an s3 was told by an Audi technician recently that he has had 2.0fsi's coming in with problems in the cylinder heads due to them runing 95ron! That said if you are on the red light and have no choice I'd imagine a little to get you to a petrol station with 98ron would be ok

98+RON all the way. V-power over Tescos.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

ta chaps & views all noted....

its the missus's car so better break it to her gently that she should be sticking the expensive stuff in.

filled it up for the first time today & she has managed 31 mpg ave on a tank full of 95 going to the shops and back, school runs, & trotting across town to work 2 mornings a week.

At the very least I will make sure I fill it up with 98, WHEN she actually lets me drive the pigging thing.

ta again

You should use 98ron + , also it helps with power and economy, with the higher ROn petrol FSI will be used for longer.

Chatted to Hurdy about this, i once managed to get 200 miles, on a long jorney with the computer only going down 40 miles or so !!!!  :surprised: :surprised:

Don't worry i rinsed the tank soon after in a stupid blat across some country lanes !

Always use Tesco 99, great fuel. On my previous Golf (V6 4-MO), there was a huge difference when I had to stick in 95ron, it felt like it was down to 5 cylinders. 99 all the way!!!  :happy2:
