ReMap - Insurance & Warranty.
« on: May 07, 2011, 09:19:55 am »
I have owned my car for 9 months now and was thinking going to Stage 1.
How would this effect insurance and warranty as I have 2 years warranty left on my car.
Will the insurance go up by much and does a ReMap improve MPG.

Cheers

As mentioned, speak to your dealer re: warranty, most are quite remap friendly these days, you will probably find the warranty will remain however if a component fails turbo etc, and it is proven as a result of the map you won't be covered.

As to insurance, I would recommend Adrian Flux, they insured my vRS with all mods declared, and stated that adding the dp and stage 2 software wouldn't add to the premium.  All this for less than my original insurance's renewal quote for the standard vehicle.  :happy2:

With regards to insurance, I'd wait until renewal time and combine the remap with the insurance at that time. Remaps are notorious for sending some insurers into a spin and some insurance companies simply will not insure you with a remapped car.

Both of the above are modification "friendly"

As are Sky Insurance.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Haven't noticed any improvement in MPG with the remap.
I thought ESure were reasonable about the insurance: roughly 30% increase, in line with 30% increase in power.  While I don't think the risk has increased by 30%, this seems like a straightforward approach.  I'll shop around at renewal, but happy with this mid-policy.
