iPod/cd changer wiring removal help
« on: April 29, 2011, 10:22:55 pm »
Hi, I'm looking at removing the iPod armrest from a Gti and reinstalling it in a tdi. Im a bit of a novice with electrics so if possible would like some advice as to where to remove the harness from. I've tracked both connection ends to
Behind the glovebox but can't see where they join. also what other cables need to be included. Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks

If its a factory installed iPod armrest, it will be a nightmare to remove the lead. I tried and it took me just over a day and I got nowhere - its all tied into the interior loom. You'd have to be pretty savage about cutting the loom tape etc and pulling the loom out if you wanted it

The easiest and most sensible thing to do is just buy the loom new from the dealer (Its about £25) and save the hassle of completely dismantling the dash of the car

VCDS Scanning/Coding, RNS and MDI retrofits, and specialist mechanics services with VAGtek available - Just PM me for details.

I agree. I fitted one in my EOS and it involved a new rear section for my centre console with the CD slot. I bought a cable for about £25. It came with some pretty comprehensive fitting instructions. I think that would be your best bet.

yes i agree, purchasing the cable will be the easiest option. However when i fitted an oem ipod adaptor to my old s3 it was an absolute nightmare making a little tool to remove and install wires. i really dont want that hassle again.
