RNS510 - When should the VW startup screen be visible?
« on: May 01, 2011, 06:47:45 pm »
Hi,

I've got a RNS 510 C in my car, but have only ever seen the VW startup screen when I've performed a soft-reset. Should I see the VW startup screen every time I turn the ignition on, after a time of xx minutes of inactivity, or only on a soft-reset?

The car is a late 2006 build with a H version CAN gateway, and I drive the car daily so any battery drain problems would have to be pretty severe for me to note an issue I'd imagine.

The firmware version is supposedly a hybrid 2760 (I think - I've certainly got 7 digit postcode recognition), so is meant to not cause battery issues with my early can gateway.

Ultimately, what I'd like to try and answer, is whether or not the absence of the startup screen is indicative of the unit never fully turning off, and thus when I leave my car at an airport for a few days in the near future, I'm likely to need my jump start box in the boot to get home!

Cheers.

My start up screen comes on after a while not sure the timing. Over night for def and then it goes through the nav start up stuff if Nav pressed etc.
Went in for a Landy came out with a GTI, mid life crysis? me :-)

Yes I see the 'welcome to Volkswagen' every morning when my rns is loading up. I believe because I'm running old firmware it takes a lot longer to start up so I'll see this alot. However, I presume you are running new firmware with it being a c version, this new firmware means the rns starts up alot quicker and so you'll see that screen less? That's my best guess!

Righto, cheers all.

It seems an updated CAN gateway is the logical path to take, unless I fancy getting caught out at some point.
