looking for coilovers
« on: May 02, 2011, 10:05:51 pm »
hey everyone.

so i sold my mk5 golf 1.4 and bought myself a mk5 gti last week. Now im in desperate need of some coilovers because the wheel gap is really starting to get to me.

Basically what im asking is where is the best place to buy some coilovers possibly FK as i had them on my old car and was very impressed with the ride and how low they go.

Im not looking to spending a small fortune on them and the cars not going to be used on any track days or anything like that just normal road use.

Any help would be appreciated  :happy2:

Have a look at AP coilies, a few of us running them and everyone seems to love them.

Buy the best you can jaffa, no point cutting corners on such a great car, you cant go wrong on AP but Koni/Bilstein would be my shout.....

bilstein do some good cost effective setups, or spend the cash on a really good fixed height setup.

I know Venom have a large selection if you do want  FK, but they also do AP's as well.
As others have said, It would be worth saving for a couple of months and buying a much better kit. You really will feel the difference over a budget kit.
Check Edition 38, or the for sale section/ebay and you can get a great kit at a much lower price than retail.

Thanks for the offer Chris but i don't think they will go low enough for what im looking for.

My old golf was lowered all the way down on my FK coilovers (apparently 90+mm) and the KW V1 only lowers to 65mm

I think im going to go with FK again as i want the same drop that i had on my golf

Thats 65mm lower on a GTI mind.  Was your 90mm down on a 1.4 Mk5 ? What I'm saying is the GTI is already lower than the 1.4 to start.

yeah i understand what your saying, i know the gti is lower than a standard golf but i still think that i will be lowering it more than 65mm from how it sits as standard now.

Cheers Guy

Be careful if you do lower it around 90mm then you may get driveshaft rubbing, subframe scraping, smash your oil sump on the ground.....or even worse, the goblin king may steal your baby.
Or just save up for a little while longer and go really low at your convenience.

(couldn't resist!)
