DSG service with remap
« on: May 03, 2011, 10:05:23 am »
Hi, im taking my gti to VW for a service on Fri. The thing is, it has a remap and when i contacted the place that remapped it he said dont tell them to download any software or it may wipe off or effect the map. My question is what info would they download with a DSG service, is it important or not?

Cheers

Only if your car needs an ecu update will the dealer need to upload software that will wipe your remap software.

A simple dsg service alone shouldn't require updating any software for the mechatronics unit (different from the ecu).

How do i know if it needs an ecu update? Is there any benefit of these updates?

Cheers

VW puts out updates to iron out minor bugs in the original software.
If the software version isn't the latest (you can check with vcds) then the dealer will want to update it. You need to make the dealer aware that you don't want the update if you are mapped as the map will be erased.
My 06 car has had one such update.
