I've been where you are now (I'm 23 and had 12 cars). If I was you I'd keep the Golf and wait until your 21 and get a GTi or Edition 30. I know it seems a long way and your mates probably have quicker / better cars than you at the moment, but it's worth the wait.

^ Sure fella. I realised after it may just have been for quote purposes but wanted to highlight the 320D>320i comparison  :happy2:

TBH you can get 330D's on a 55-07 plate for between £11k-£14k. I've been looking myself at these. Aside these, perhaps like me, the BMW scene isn't for you judging by your other choices? If you could manage the insurance, then I'd say worth a test drive.

The thing with BMW's is the running costs, my old man has a 3 series and the tyres, servicing costs more than VW/Audi. I dont know I cant settle on what car to go for. I am getting a new bike next year when my licence becomes unrestricted (ninja ZX6r ) So I am keeping that money in the bank. I dont want to blow it all on a new car. I cannot decide!

Still no further on the decision!  Although there is a new contender I have been pondering. The Renault Clio 197 R27 or cup. Anyone got any opinions on this car? I am a little hesitant about the build quality but reviews on youtube say it is a proper drivers car. Plus they are a lot cheaper than the A3!

I had an R27 for 2 years before my Golf. Brilliant little car, great fun on a B road, but not as much fun on a motorway due to the low gearing. I used to love hustling much more powerful cars down the back roads. Build quality was pretty good. Only problem I had was a creaking door which was fixed under warranty.

I am going to arrange a test drive then!

Try and find a later one (post Oct 2007 build, I recall), as they have a revised 6th gear for lower motorway rpm. Only knocks off 2-300 revs, but it counts.

Wincing at your £1800 insurance comment, I paid around £260!

if your heart is set on a Golf Gti then wait untill you can get one or pay that little bit extra for the insurance. I had the same problem a year ago, i ended up buying an Audi A3 2.0TDI Sport, beautiful looking car, was nice to drive and ok for fuel economy. But it lasted for 6months because i wanted a Golf Gti, everytime i saw one drive past i was envious and it made me hate the Audi more and more each time i saw a Gti. I wish i just bought the Gti and spent that little bit extra on insurance.
