Can somebody tell me if I'm in the wrong here...?
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:15:16 pm »
All,
Without getting into it too much, APR are well known for three things:
a) Excellent quality products - some of the best kit on the market.
b) Generally one of, if not the most, expensive products on the market.
c) An interesting approach to people making comments about their products in the public domain i.e. VAG foums...

I have absolutley nothing against APR - their stage 4 kit for the 2.0TFSI is immense and gobsmacking. Anybody who gets over 500whp from a GT28 is, frankly, an alchemist...

However I posted the following on one of their Facebook pictures recently. It is with regards to their replacement intercooler for the 2.0TFSI:

Patrick Hmm... I genuinley believe the THS is a better option to be honest. It's cheaper and I think you guys would be hard pushed to prove any real performance difference between the two... Feel free to prve me wrong though guys :)

APR, LLC. Thank you Patrick, yes, you are correct, the knockoff is better. We lose! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Ryan Miller I made one in my basement out of aluminum foil and cardboard. It looks like the APR one. It's going to work great. Thanks for the design guys! :thumbs up:

Matt Updegrave Give it a cool euro name like "uber cooler" and make a million on EBay

Patrick ‎ Sorry! :( Not trying to upset the apple cart! The THS has been used in a lot of 2.0TFSI builds in the UK, and by people who could happily afford the APR one... BSH WOA GTI Ed30 DSG and BSH WOA S3 both pushing 500bhp...

APR, LLC. Why settle with the TSH? I'm sure you can find an even cheaper knock off on ebay or by other companies like sillyjet racing. Hope it fits!

Is it just me or does that seem totally unprofessional? I think that the vast majority of people on here with uprated intercoolers are running a THS or a Forge Twintercooler for the same reasons as I posted in my message.

Putting that aside for a moment, how can they feel they can be totally dismissive of other manufacturers products (and judging by the spelling mistake about a manufacturer who's prodcuts they aren't even aware of!) and just downright rude to somebody who may be a potential customer?

Everytime I try and forget about the NUMEROUS outright slagging matches between APR and xxx manufacturer of performance parts on VW Vortex or similar forums, they come out with yet another reason to resent spending any money with them.

I need a second opinion on this - am I being out of line here? Is there something I'm missing?!?! All opinions are welcome :)

I think that is being posted by someone very naive if that's the responses they are giving.

If you took a screenshot and emailed to someone senior in APR I reckon you may get a different response.

.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think it is very unprofessional to slag off rival manufacturers/suppliers.

And it also puts me off those who do so. Call me old fashioned but I am 64yo!

There was a guy who apparently represented APR across the pond and he was constantly slagging off others. APR should do something about that because the fact remains that they do offer some excellent products.

I'm a totally committed Milltek fanboy but I never slag off Blueflame or APR exhausts. And I'm not a manufacturer nor in the industry either.

I think the problem stems from APR seeing your posts as negative towards it's products.
They obviously take a dim view but as Carl said their response is very immature.

Ultimately you pays your money and makes your choice.

Yeah dude carl and RR are spot on....what a foolish response, im sure the MD of APR would be happy his staff are so blase about other competitors... THS make nice products as do Pro Alloy,Forge, Pace and my old buddy Peter @SPEC R...they all make intercoolers and so did (im not sure if he still does) a guy called GRS, basically the cores are not made in-house as a rule (i cannot comment on all of the above as they can verify that themselves) But its a combination of end cap design and the type of core used in an intercooler.....Personally id rather shove wasps up my a$$ than put my cash on any APR product, especially the prices they charge which is something that APR need to address instead of being blindly arrogant about their superior products....if they are so so damn good why dont they have a contract with rolls royce then! they make nice products for sure but at steep prices. If you want to ask some of the guys on here they will say S3 oem with Twintercooler or THS all they way...APR are so nice that why awesome gti fell out with them............. hmmmmmmm wonder why that was ha ha

I'm glad that your all agreeing with me and also kinda shocked at just how many people have the same opinion of APR - good product, bad people. Without being nation-ist, I do think it's an american thing, very self rightgeous and self promoting. I guess it's just part of their culture...

I have APR HPFP, APR IC and APR RSC TBE and i find that the communication with the company itself has been mature and respectfull. They seem to be marked by the way the american forummites communicates and hasn't quite grasped that it works different overhere. I can't fault their products nor their service.

Over the top mod list ;o)

Danish, while you are buying their expensive products they are gonna treat you with respect, but as the other guys mention, when mentioning other products they get arsey about it. The good old American way. lol

All that aside, the APR RSC exhaust is like nothing else, Milltek etc can only dream of making such a wonderfully sounding exhaust. Their response is a bit childish and unprofessional def, but at the end of the day, it comes down to the products themselves. Pays monies, takes choice!

A - Exhaust sound is very subjective and one is not 'better' than another. Personally, much as I like the APR I so much prefer the sound of my Milltek.

B - Milltek don't have any aspirations of making their exhausts sound like APR's or anyone else's in particular.

C - Milltek's approach is to offer exhaust sounds which are sporting but rather more sophisticated than some of their competitors.
