Okay, so I finally got rid of my cursed Megane on Tuesday (part ex'd it for £8750!) and got an 07 Golf Edition 30 for £14k.
About an hour after collecting it, I noticed a loud whirring noise coming from the engine bay, which changed depending on engine speed (imagine the noise of a piece of wood stuck in your wheels and it hitting them as you move). 5 minutes later the engine management light comes on. Obviously I drove it cautiously home, but on the way, something else happened leaving my car sounding like a tractor, with absolutely no power and unable to rev beyond 3k or so.
In short, the Golf has since been to a diagnostic place for two days, who couldn't identify a problem, so now it's off to an engine specialist to have the engine stripped. They are refusing to send it to my local VW dealer or a VW specialist.
What would you do, and where do I stand on this legally if I want a refund or different car? I have obviously paid to have insurance changed over, tax for the car etc etc, so what would happen to these costs?
I'm massively deflated and am ill to boot, alongside a mountain of personal problems - not a great week for me.
Cheers,
Russ.
