Swapping Fog and Reverse Lights - LED Tails
« on: May 08, 2011, 12:55:32 pm »
Hi Guys, i have a question about this as im midway through doing it.

I've found this reply and have a question about gluing the lights back together

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2823.msg184079.html#msg184079

When sticking back together, are you gluing the coloured caps in to place as they've had the legs cut away? I think that must be how you've done it but want to confirm before i cut things up and cant undo it

Cheers
Ant

That's how I did it. I've done a few sets for other people (not forum members) and have had no issues. If you want anymore advice just ask. Main thing is take your time and be careful. Make sure you use a glue gun!! Unless you do plastic welding of course  :happy2:

I got rid of the red filter altogether.....

Just use a red bulb instead. Passed MOT no problem and looks much better having two clear lenses  :happy2:

And you only need to open up one light.....

Good point, I'm thinking of swapping my fog lens out but can't be bothered at the moment. Bought the silver bulb about 6 months ago  :signLOL:

I'm at this stage at the moment...

So, the way to do it is to cut down the caps and then glue in on top of the clear bit inside the light - i've bought a glue gun to do it having read Hurdy's thread and someone suggesting superglue can cause fogging

Yeah it does cause fogging, and can't really be fixed easily. You want to cut off the bracket bits on the red and clear lenses, then glue the clear outer lenses in place, followed by the cut down clear and red pieces.

Cheers for clarifying for me  :happy2:

Make sure everything is stuck securely before sealing. My first attempt came loose and had to be taken apart and done again. Look forward to seeing the finished product  :happy2:

I didn't fix the lenses in but found them to fit quite well and haven't moved in about 12 months.
I held them upside down when gluing them and that kept everything in place and tight.
