New CW MK6 - AutoGlym Life Shine or Not???
« on: May 08, 2011, 06:42:04 pm »
Hi All

Just put a deposit on a new MK6 CW.  As per usual pushing the Life Shine @ £400.  Said no as from memory its not well regarded & available for £50 ish.  Just wanted to check I was doing the right thing.

Car will come home for a Clay & Auto Balm.
No Golf anymore.
Enjoyed the last five years of ownership of Mk5 & 6 GTIs.
Plus an excellent forum for knowledge and new ways to deplete the bank account.
Thank You Everyone.

For £400, you can buy all of the materials, including a machine polisher, and do a far better job. Or you could get someone to do the detail and it'd be superior to anything lifeshine/dealer valeter could ever hope to achieve.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

No.  The sales people use it an extra source of income so tend to push them quite hard.

Surely it's just a wax? For £400 you could get some of the best wax available applied to your car. I've seen and heard of carnauba wax that's so hard it can only be applied by hand!

 You mean bare hand as opposed to foam pad applicator and using your arms?

Run the car in, nip up the road and see JPC.  Get a far better job done.

That's dear for lifeshine but its upto the dealer. You can do it cheaper yourself. the lifeshine comes with a guarantee and you will get a kit as well if done thru the dealer. I wouldn't buy one and apply it yourself as the guarantee that comes with it is useless unless applied by a AG trained person. As prev stated a good detailer maybe a better option.

Guys don't ever ever buy a sealant from a dealer!!

They are never applied properly which:

A) means the sealant doesn't protect what it's supposed to be doing
B) there will probably be putting swirls and scratches in the paint
C) it's a huge waste of your money. It costs the dealers about £12-15 quid to apply. It's one of the most profitable items in dealerships these days along with gap insurance and tyre insurance.

I can't talk for all dealerships as I don't know who works in them all but 99% of dealership applied sealants will be a mess.

Aswell as that, I have never ever seen a good job carried out from a dealer when it comes to selants. The most troubling thing is, when I'm rinsing these cars off with dealer applied sealant, they have never beaded or sheeted water.

On top of all that, I have tested these sealants myself to substantiate my claims.
These were applied to a perfect surface and tested alongside the waxes and sealants I use.

Needless to say they were useless!

I was going to bring it home for a clay look for any swirls etc then finish off with some auto balm. Some poorboys wheel seal.

What if anything do you recommend for the interior...

TBH I've never needed to do much to my interior. Use a weak mix of all-purpose cleaner, a detailing brush to work it into the plastics, wipe off and use something like Poorboy's Natural Look Dressing. Use same mix of APC on the leather bits. Never needed to do anything other than vacuum the upholstery.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

hit up one of the pros custom detailers in central scotland, polished bliss up north scotland, refined details, miglior, valet magic and on and on.

you will get correction and protection easily at that price, and before you say it correction is often required on new cars.

if i was buying it new i would insist on pain of death that the stealers do not prep it. allow the pre delivery inspection but dont let them wash it.
